Ready Or Not…Here I Come!

Have you ever thought about changing your own attitude to one that’s more effective for achieving your goals? If you think you’ll get the unanimous support and assistance of those around you…you might want to think again.

When it comes to doing what it takes to change your attitude for the better, not everyone will give you their blessing. The truth is…some people just won’t get it. You’re convinced it’ll alter your outcomes. You believe there’s a positive payoff and are willing to do the work. But not everyone agrees with this point of view. In fact, many think the opposite is true. Many people believe what they’re doing is already just fine despite the evidence to the contrary. They’re not the ones who need to change. Just ask, they’ll tell you. It’s other people who are the problem. It’s other people who are sabotaging this person’s success. It’s they and them who need to change. Yes…the concept of changing oneself often meets great resistance.

An interesting thing happens when we begin working on ourselves - we notice a shift in our results. Others notice a change as well. Not everyone likes what they see however. Those not ready to accept the ‘new you’ want the old version back. When they talked about their problems and hardships you were a real team player who unfailingly joined in. When they shared how they were wronged and who was to blame you always went along - but not anymore.

Yes, you have changed! You’re no longer interested in a perspective that sees no way out. You want to talk with like-minded people who understand your powerful new point of view. No more gripe sessions, pity parties or getting mired in the muck. Like a Super Hero that has discovered his Super Powers, you want to discuss what’s possible…not what isn’t.

For each one of us, changing our outer world begins by changing the inner world of what we think about, talk about and focus on. Don’t kid yourself however. Altering how we think is a big job. We must consciously UP our attitude in those times we find it hardest to do. Every challenge is a strengthening exercise that calls upon us to move ourselves to higher mental ground. It’s a pass/fail pop quiz that tests our willingness and commitment. Every bad event that causes our attitude to dive like a rollercoaster on a downward turn requires us to find the wherewithal to pull it back up. We must rebound our mind while in the thick of the challenge…not just wait for a turn of events. It’s a well-disciplined attitude that’s a powerful one!

In each person there exists this power to focus on and find ways to conquer monumental challenges. However, when the going gets tough not everyone taps into their power. What was once impossible eventually gets conquered but it’s done by someone with an effective mindset for overcoming obstacles. Defeatists don’t conquer challenges, they succumb to them. They think the obstacles should cease and desist so they can move ahead. They’re held hostage by “them” and their own unwillingness to change. Proportionally, as our attitude grows, our obstacles shrink and appear more manageable. That is power!! Changing our thinking is how we transform our lives…as well as our world. It is pure unlimited potential waiting to be unleashed just as soon as it’s discovered. One by one, there are people ready to muster the courage to stand up for a greater truth and a better way, no matter who comes along and who’s not ready.

It really is all about working on the effectiveness of our own attitude! It’s about changing our thinking in such a way that it profoundly impacts our results…in a good way. Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful and committed people could change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has. -Margaret Mead
